Overview
The 2025 Toyota bZ4X AWD is the brand's first swing at a dedicated all-electric platform, wrapping its legendary reliability in a futuristic SUV package. This dual-motor, all-wheel-drive trim is the pick of the bunch, offering all-weather confidence and punchier performance. As this is its final model year, it represents a solid buy on the nearly-new market, with used prices hovering around €32,900. It’s a spacious, comfortable, and distinctively styled family EV that stands out from the usual suspects, delivering a hassle-free electric experience with a Toyota badge.
What's New for 2025?
For its final year, Toyota has polished the bZ4X with some key quality-of-life upgrades. A new water-to-water heat exchanger is now standard, significantly speeding up DC fast-charging times in colder European climates—a massive win for winter driving. The instrument cluster now also shows the state-of-charge percentage during DC charging, a simple but welcome fix. For faster top-ups at home or the office, an 11 kW on-board AC charger is available as a crucial optional extra, while a new Digital Key feature adds a touch of modern convenience.
Design & Exterior
You won’t mistake the bZ4X for anything else on the road. Its "hammerhead" front design, sharp creases, and contrasting black body cladding give it a properly radical, concept-car look. The AWD trim looks purposeful with its rugged wheel arches and sleek LED lighting. It’s a sizeable machine, measuring 4,690 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, giving it a commanding presence. It's a bold move from Toyota that ditches conservative styling for something genuinely eye-catching and futuristic.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the bZ4X is just as unique, with a high-mounted digital driver's display you view over the steering wheel and a large central touchscreen dominating the dash. The cabin feels airy and spacious, thanks to the long 2,850 mm wheelbase. You get a practical 452-litre boot for luggage and shopping, but one major niggle is the complete lack of a front trunk, so your charging cables will have to live in the back. Standard tech is great, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto keeping you connected seamlessly.
Performance & Driving Experience
The dual-motor AWD setup is the one to go for. It delivers a combined 160 kW and 337 Nm of torque from its front and rear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors, making it feel lively and responsive. The 0-100 km/h sprint is dispatched in a brisk 6.9 seconds, which is more than enough to feel punchy. The ride is supremely comfortable and quiet, soaking up bumps with ease. Plus, with the clever X-MODE for slippery conditions co-developed with Subaru, this is one EV that’s not afraid to get its boots a little muddy.
Range, Battery & Charging
The AWD model is equipped with a 64 kWh usable battery pack. According to Green Cars Compare's calculations, this delivers a practical real-world range of about 371 km on a full charge, with an efficiency of 5.8 km/kWh. For charging, it uses a standard European CCS Type 2 port. On a DC fast charger, it can pull up to 150 kW, taking it from 10-80% in around 30 minutes. At home, the optional 11 kW AC charger will replenish the battery in about 6.5 hours, a worthy upgrade over the standard 6.6 kW unit.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a top priority, and the bZ4X nails it with a full five-star rating from Euro NCAP. It comes comprehensively equipped with Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 suite right out of the box. This includes a robust pre-collision system, full-speed adaptive cruise control, and an excellent Lane Trace Assist that helps take the strain out of long motorway journeys. Blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert are also on board, making this one of the safest and most relaxing family SUVs you can buy.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Toyota's reputation for reliability is backed by one of the best warranty packages in the business. The crucial EV battery is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km, with a guarantee to retain at least 70% of its capacity. On top of that, the Toyota Relax program can extend the main vehicle warranty for up to 10 years or 185,000 km, as long as you get it serviced at an official dealer. This industry-leading coverage provides incredible peace of mind for long-term ownership.
