Overview
The 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 AWD Pro is a seriously compelling all-electric family SUV that perfectly blends practicality with a newfound punch. Positioned against rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5, this dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant gets a significant power boost for 2025, making it much quicker off the line. Key highlights include the sure-footed AWD grip, a spacious and comfortable cabin, and a much-improved infotainment system that addresses earlier criticisms. While official EU pricing is pending, expect it to be a strong value proposition in its segment.
What's New for 2025?
The big news for 2025 is the potent new rear motor, which transforms the AWD Pro's performance, making it significantly more responsive and powerful than its predecessor. Inside, the cabin gets a massive tech upgrade with a standard 12.9-inch infotainment screen running slicker, more intuitive software. Crucially, Volkswagen has finally added backlighting to the frustrating touch sliders for volume and climate control, a huge quality-of-life improvement. The gear selector also moves to a more conventional steering column stalk, cleaning up the dashboard layout for a more premium feel.
Design & Exterior
The ID.4 AWD Pro sports a clean, friendly, and aerodynamic design that looks more like a modern crossover than a radical EV. It’s a soft-roader aesthetic that won’t intimidate buyers new to electric cars. This trim often features unique alloy wheel designs and subtle 'AWD' badging to set it apart. Standard IQ.Light LED matrix headlights give it a sharp, high-tech face and excellent visibility. Its well-proportioned dimensions—measuring 4584 mm in length, 1852 mm in width, and 1634 mm in height—give it a confident stance on the road without being unwieldy in tight city streets.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the ID.4 AWD Pro boasts an airy and minimalist cabin with impressive passenger space for five, thanks to its dedicated EV platform. The star of the show is the new 12.9-inch central touchscreen, which is snappy and comes with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of practicality, it’s a winner. You get a massive 543-litre boot, which expands to an enormous 1575 litres when you fold the rear seats flat. While there's plenty of storage, note that there is no front trunk, or 'frunk', for extra cable storage.
Performance & Driving Experience
This is where the 2025 model really shines. The dual-motor AWD system, combining an induction motor at the front with a permanent magnet motor at the rear, delivers a hefty 250 kW and 679 Nm of instant torque. That’s enough poke to launch this family SUV from 0-100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds. The driving experience is quiet, comfortable, and composed, soaking up road imperfections with ease. While it’s not a sports car, the low centre of gravity and all-wheel-drive grip provide secure and confident handling in all conditions.
Range, Battery & Charging
Fitted with a 77 kWh usable battery pack, the ID.4 AWD Pro offers a dependable driving range. Green Cars Compare calculates its real-world range at 402 km, with an excellent efficiency of 5.22 km/kWh. For charging, its 400V architecture uses a CCS Type 2 port. At home on an 11 kW AC wallbox, a full charge takes about eight hours. When you’re out and about, it can pull a maximum of 175 kW from a DC fast charger, zapping the battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes, making long-distance travel a breeze.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a top priority in the ID.4, which is backed by a full 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. It comes generously equipped with Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE suite of assistance systems. Standard features on the Pro trim include Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist with emergency braking, and Lane Assist to help keep you centred. For those wanting even more tech, optional upgrades like Travel Assist with Swarm Data offer more advanced semi-autonomous driving capabilities, taking the stress out of long motorway journeys and traffic jams.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Volkswagen provides solid peace of mind for ID.4 owners in Europe. The vehicle is typically covered by a 2-year, unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty. More importantly, the high-voltage battery pack is protected by an extensive 8-year or 160,000-kilometre warranty, whichever comes first, guaranteeing it will retain at least 70% of its original usable capacity. Thanks to the simplicity of the electric powertrain, scheduled maintenance is less frequent and generally more affordable than a comparable internal combustion engine vehicle, contributing to lower overall running costs.
