Overview
The Volkswagen ID.7 Pro arrives as the brand's electric flagship, a slick liftback aimed squarely at premium rivals like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. It's essentially an electric successor to the much-loved Passat, packing a spacious, high-tech cabin into a seriously aerodynamic body. With a focus on comfort and long-distance cruising, it’s a compelling package for families and executives alike. In Europe, expect pricing to start around €54,105 new, with used examples fetching about €44,490, making it a premium but attainable choice in the EV space.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the big news is the expansion of the ID.7 family with the practical Tourer and the punchy all-wheel-drive GTX. The core Pro model, however, isn't left out. It receives crucial over-the-air software updates for its infotainment system, which seriously boosts responsiveness and irons out some of the early quirks. This means a slicker user experience with the large central screen. While the hardware is a carry-over, these software refinements make the 2025 Pro a more polished and user-friendly long-distance machine than its predecessors.
Design & Exterior
The ID.7 Pro is all about that aero life. Its super-slippery liftback shape isn't just for looks; it’s designed to slice through the air for maximum efficiency. Measuring a commanding 4961 mm long, 1862 mm wide, and 1536 mm tall, it has proper road presence. Key features include the slim IQ.LIGHT LED headlights connected by a light bar at the front, with a similar treatment at the rear for a distinctive light signature. The Pro trim rides on stylish alloy wheels that complete its sleek, modern, and unmistakably VW look.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside, and you’re greeted by a minimalist, airy cabin dominated by a gargantuan 15-inch infotainment screen. Most physical buttons are gone, but the standard augmented-reality head-up display is properly clever, projecting info right onto the road ahead. There are acres of legroom for all five passengers. Luggage space is massive, with 532 litres in the boot, expanding to a van-like 1586 litres with the seats down. While there's no frunk, the overall practicality is stellar. Material quality is a big step up for VW's ID range.
Performance & Driving Experience
Don’t let its comfy cruiser vibe fool you; the ID.7 Pro is properly punchy. Its single rear-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) churns out a healthy 210 kW and a massive 560 Nm of torque. This rear-wheel-drive setup shoves the car from 0-100 km/h in a swift 6.5 seconds, topping out at 180 km/h. On the road, it’s all about effortless, serene progress. The ride is supple and quiet, making it a fantastic motorway muncher. It wafts along beautifully, with instant torque always on tap for easy overtakes.
Range, Battery & Charging
The ID.7 Pro is built for the long haul. Its 77 kWh usable battery delivers a Green Cars Compare estimated real-world range of 526 km, thanks to an impressive efficiency of 6.83 km/kWh. When it’s time to plug in, you can top up overnight using the standard 11 kW on-board AC charger. Out on the road, its 400V architecture and CCS Type 2 port can handle a DC fast-charging "splash-and-dash" at up to 175 kW, zapping the battery from 10-80% in under 30 minutes.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Volkswagen hasn't skimped on safety, with the ID.7 Pro earning a full five stars from Euro NCAP. It comes loaded with a comprehensive suite of driver aids. Standard IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist acts as your co-pilot on the motorway, combining adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping for semi-automated driving. You also get Front Assist with emergency braking and pedestrian detection. Optional upgrades like the clever Park Assist Plus with a memory function can even remember and automate your daily parking manoeuvres, taking the stress out of tight spots.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
The ID.7 Pro comes with solid peace of mind. Volkswagen offers a 2-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty on the vehicle itself in Europe. More importantly for an EV, the high-voltage battery is covered by the industry-standard 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, guaranteeing it will retain at least 70% of its usable capacity during that period. While complimentary maintenance isn't typically part of the deal in Europe, the MEB platform's reliability and reduced servicing needs compared to a petrol car should mean lower running costs over the long term.
