Overview
The Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer storms in as the performance flagship of the ID.7 Tourer range, blending family-friendly practicality with a proper kick. This all-wheel-drive electric estate, produced in Germany, packs a serious punch, aiming to thrill those needing space but craving speed. With its enhanced power and sporty styling cues, the GTX isn't just another sensible VW; it's an electric hauler with attitude. New prices in the EU hover around €63,955, with used examples around €61,980, offering a compelling package for a premium, sporty EV wagon.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the big news is the arrival of this GTX firecracker itself, transforming the ID.7 Tourer into a genuine performance wagon. Based on its 2024 production start, this trim injects potent all-wheel drive and a significant power boost over standard models. Expect distinctive GTX styling elements inside and out, setting it apart. Volkswagen has also been rolling out its latest-generation infotainment system with improved usability and a larger screen, which the GTX benefits from, alongside potential software enhancements for efficiency and charging performance as part of VW's continuous updates.
Design & Exterior
The ID.7 GTX Tourer boasts a sharp, aerodynamic wagon silhouette, measuring 4961 mm long, 1862 mm wide (excluding mirrors), and 1549 mm tall. It gets the GTX treatment with unique, more aggressive bumpers, a distinctive honeycomb grille design, and gloss black accents. Expect bespoke alloy wheels, likely 20-inchers as standard, to fill those arches. IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with a connecting light bar at the front and 3D LED tail lights with dynamic indicators at the rear give it a high-tech, recognisable signature, especially at night. It's a handsome, yet subtly sporty estate.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the ID.7 GTX gets sporty upgrades like premium seats with red contrast stitching and GTX lettering, adding a racier feel to the spacious, modern cabin designed for five. Quality materials abound. Boot space is a massive 605 litres, expanding to a van-like 1714 litres with seats down; sadly, there's no frunk for extra bits. Dominating the dash is VW’s new 15-inch infotainment screen, slicker and more responsive, with standard wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. An augmented reality head-up display is also a high-tech highlight, likely standard on this top trim.
Performance & Driving Experience
This electric estate is no slouch! With its dual motor setup – an Induction Motor (IM) at the front and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) at the rear – delivering a combined 250 kW and a hefty 679 Nm of torque to all four wheels, the ID.7 GTX zaps from 0-100 km/h in a claimed 5.5 seconds. Top speed is limited to 180 km/h. Expect sharp handling thanks to the AWD grip and potentially adaptive chassis control (DCC) for a blend of comfort and agility. Regenerative braking will offer multiple levels, helping to recoup energy efficiently.
Range, Battery & Charging
The ID.7 GTX packs an 86 kWh usable battery (91 kWh nominal), delivering a Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range of around 496 km – pretty decent for a performance wagon. Official efficiency is quoted at 5.77 km/kWh. For charging, it supports up to 11 kW AC via its CCS Type 2 port, meaning a full top-up overnight is easy. When you’re out and about, it can gulp down DC juice at up to 200 kW on compatible 400V chargers, adding significant range in under 30 minutes. Battery pre-conditioning ensures optimal fast charging speeds.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is top-notch, with the ID.7 range already bagging an impressive 5-star Euro NCAP rating. The GTX trim will come loaded with VW’s comprehensive IQ.DRIVE assistance systems. Expect standard features like Travel Assist (combining adaptive cruise control and lane keeping), Front Assist with emergency braking, Park Assist Plus with memory function for automated parking, and dynamic road sign display. Blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system are also likely included, making this a very secure family hauler for European roads.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Volkswagen typically offers a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty for the vehicle in Europe, with some markets extending this. The crucial high-voltage battery is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, guaranteeing at least 70% of its original usable capacity. Powertrain components usually align with the main vehicle warranty. While specific complimentary maintenance varies by country, VW EVs generally have lower running costs than petrol equivalents. The MEB platform underpinning the ID.7 is maturing, promising decent reliability for this German-built wagon.
