Overview
The 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Long GTX is the spicy, all-wheel-drive, long-wheelbase big brother in the Buzz family! It’s a super cool, retro-modern minivan packing a serious punch with 250 kW and seating for up to seven. Aimed at families wanting space, style, and a bit of oomph, this GTX version cranks up the desirability. With its larger 86 kWh battery and go-anywhere AWD, it’s ready for adventure. Expect it to land in Europe with a new price tag starting from around €74,928, making it a premium, yet practical, electric hauler.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the big news is the arrival of this very ID.Buzz Long GTX! This trim electrifies the long-wheelbase model with a potent dual-motor AWD setup, a first for the ID.Buzz. It also brings a larger 86 kWh (usable) battery, providing more range and grunt. You'll spot GTX-specific design cues inside and out, marking its sporty intentions. Think exclusive paint options like Cherry Red, slicker wheels, and a sportier interior ambience. Volkswagen is also rolling out an updated infotainment system with a larger screen and enhanced voice assistant with ChatGPT integration.
Design & Exterior
The ID.Buzz Long GTX keeps the beloved retro-inspired charm but adds a dose of aggression. It stretches to 4962 mm in length, sits 1985 mm wide (excluding mirrors), and 1924 mm tall, giving it serious presence. GTX-specific touches include a unique front bumper with a black honeycomb grille, high-gloss black accents, and distinctive GTX badging. Standard IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and striking 20-inch wheels (21-inch optional) complete its sporty, head-turning look. It’s a van, but probably the coolest one on the block!
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the Long GTX offers a massively spacious and flexible cabin, configurable with five, six, or seven seats. The GTX treatment means a darker, sportier theme with premium ArtVelours Eco microfleece seats featuring red contrast stitching. Cargo space is immense: a whopping 1340 litres with all rear seats up, expanding to a cavernous 2469 litres with them folded. Sadly, there's no frunk. Tech-wise, it boasts VW's latest infotainment on a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an optional augmented reality head-up display for that futuristic feel.
Performance & Driving Experience
This ain't your average bus! The ID.Buzz Long GTX packs a dual-motor AWD system, with an IM (induction motor) at the front and a PMSM (permanent magnet synchronous motor) at the rear, delivering a combined 250 kW (340 PS) and a hefty 679 Nm of torque. That means a surprisingly brisk 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h. Expect confident handling thanks to AWD, a comfy ride, and multiple regenerative braking modes to claw back energy. It’s the performance MPV you never knew you needed!
Range, Battery & Charging
Fuelling the fun is an 86 kWh usable battery (91 kWh nominal), giving a Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range of around 403 km. Efficiency is rated at a decent 4.69 km/kWh. For charging, it features a CCS Type 2 port. At home or work, the standard 11 kW on-board AC charger will top it up overnight. When you’re out and about, DC fast charging zaps the battery at up to 200 kW on its 400V architecture, meaning a 10-80% top-up can be done in under 30 minutes. Battery pre-conditioning helps achieve optimal charging speeds.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
While the Long GTX specifically hasn't been crash-tested by Euro NCAP yet, the standard wheelbase ID.Buzz earned a top five-star rating, boding well for its bigger sibling. Expect a comprehensive suite of safety kit. Standard features likely include Front Assist (emergency braking), Lane Assist, and an exit warning system. The GTX should also benefit from advanced systems like Travel Assist (combining adaptive cruise control and lane centering) and Park Assist Plus with memory function, some potentially as standard, making driving and parking this big bus a doddle.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
In Europe, Volkswagen typically offers a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty for the vehicle itself, with 3 years for paint and 12 years against through-rusting. Crucially for an EV, the high-voltage battery in the ID.Buzz Long GTX is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, guaranteeing at least 70% of its usable capacity. Service intervals are generally every 2 years with no mileage restriction for inspection. While complimentary maintenance isn't standard in Europe, service packages are often available for purchase.
