The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been named Cars.com's Best EV for two years running. Hyundai's 2025 Ioniq 5 has a series of subtle but meaningful updates, including an off-road oriented trim, making it better than before.
The most notable change is that it’s the first non-Tesla vehicle to come standard with an NACS charge port. Standard and long-range batteries are both larger than before. The standard range battery has gone up five kilowatt hours to 63, and the long-range battery is up 6.6 to 84 kilowatt hours. A bigger battery also means a slightly longer charge time, though range is up across the board. The new minimum range on a single motor, standard range configuration is 245 miles. It maxes out at 318 miles before adding another motor. With an all-wheel drive configuration, minimum range is 259 miles in the XRT, and it runs up to 290 miles in the middle trims.
Access to the Tesla charging network is more convenient than speedy, with a 10-80% charge time of 24 minutes for a single motor and 30 for dual motor. All Ioniq 5s come standard with a CCS charge port adapter.
Exterior updates for 2025 include more black plastic and prominent chrome trim in the front, more aerodynamic wheels, and a rear-mounted wiper for the rear window, a feature that was often requested by customers. Interior changes include an updated steering wheel design, and the dual 12-inch displays are now 12.3 inches each. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard. The center console has been redesigned, with a reworked wireless charge pad, under console storage, and a dedicated line of hard buttons for seat and camera controls.
The new off-road-oriented XRT trim has extra black cladding that Hyundai calls digital camouflage and functional tow hooks. The standard all-terrain tires, in combination with the 0.9 inch suspension lift make it ready for the desert, but is more suitable for fire roads rather than serious off-roading. When testing the XRT, it’s comfy off-road, with a good ride. It has all the modern tech people need, from adaptive cruise to lane keeping assist.
