Video Summary

The Kia EV5 is presented as a good alternative to Tesla, especially for people tired of seeing everyone driving Teslas. This car starts at just under $57,000, the model being reviewed is the Earth all-wheel drive that costs just under $65,000. Made in China. Optional colors are $520, which is reasonable. Styling is cool and futuristic. Instead of open holes, it has closed in the grille, the LED signature. The car operates at 400 volts.

The 19-inch alloy wheels have a machine finish and piano black on the inside and a futuristic looking aero cover. Piano black wheel arches and recessed door handles. Privacy glass here on the earth model. Full LED tail lights run halfway around the back of the vehicle.

Inside, the key uses nice recycled plastic with the Kia logo up the top and it lights up. Proximity sensing to leave the key in your pocket. Drive modes and stop-start is activated on the steering wheel. You're getting a screen ahead of the driver, texture, and buttons. It feels like getting a complete car in some ways. The charging port off to the side and there are optional settings for data or just charging ports. The phone socket gets too hot. There is no good place to store stuff out of sight. Limited configuration options in the driver display. Soft on the door with a firm in the middle area. There is no sunglass holder.

513 liters of space in the boot, 67 liters in the front. It has a little little gap for putting odds and ends and a pretty handy shelf section with side storage. 100 to 0 test was 3.09 seconds which was really quick, and the handling's great, semi-autonomous steering, and rear parking system, good visibility, it feels really smooth over rough terrain but it could have been a bit more supportive at high speed curves.

Claims efficiency was roughly about 20.1 kilowatts for 100km.  Power figures of around 230 kw, torque 480. WLTP range of 500 km. The front motor bigger than the rear, making this car more a front wheel based vehicle.

Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian cyclist detection, front and rear parking sensors, has driver monitoring system, and blind spot monitoring, it runs around 141 kw.

Reviewer's opinion: probably the best competitor seen yet to Tesla's Model Y. Comfort was a priority over sportiness. The reviewer would like a tighter suspension and handling.
