Video Summary
The Fiat 500 Electric Cabrio is an excellent re-elaboration of a classic, launched in 2020 with modern style and technology. Its dimensions resemble those of the gasoline-powered version. The battery pack has a 42.0 kWh nominal capacity, with 37.3 kWh being effective. It is liquid-cooled and placed on the platform for nearly perfect weight distribution. The motor has 118 hp and 220 Nm of torque, and is positioned at the front, similar to a traditional car. A key point is its weight: 1,405 kg, relatively low despite the battery weighing 300 kg. The battery pack's warranty is for 8 years or 160,000 km. It has classic, yet modern and updated styling. Its exterior lines are classic, modern and likable.
Regarding space, the Fiat 500 Electric Cabrio is small on the outside but well-organized inside. The trunk is identical to the sister Berlin version, but its opening is low and narrow due to the roof. Its capacity is 185-550 liters. Two adults have an uncomfortable amount of space in the back due to limited leg and foot room. Two children can sit in the back seats or can be used for brief trips. The car is homologated for four passengers, though the interior cabin is quite narrow. Quality materials are used throughout the interior, and the dashboard is like a design object.
To start the car, it is necessary to press the power button and the instrumentation is entirely digital. The infotainment system is quick and intuitive to use. The related smartphone app, called Fiat, offers several features to control the car remotely. The steering is precise, but always light. The best use case for the car is an urban one, with the taratura dampers having a slightly rigid response.
The urban consumption is 13.8 kWh/100 km. It's 12.0 kWh/100 km extra-urban and 18.7 kWh/100 km on the highway. 14.8 kWh/100 km average. At home, from a standard 2.3 kW socket, it recharges with a speed of 13.8 km of autonomy per hour. The car is equipped with a Type 2 port to charge AC and a CCS Combo to charge DC.
For safety, it received 4/5 EuroNCAP stars in 2021, with 76% for safety of the adult occupants, 80% of the safety of children and 67% for pedestrians, with lots of ADAS driving. At just over EUR 32,000 the starting price, EUR 38,300 for this version on trial, however not accounting for any discounts or incentives.
There is insufficient space for adults in the rear. The trunk is tiny. There are only partial over-the-air software updates. There is no planning support for long trips with charging stops.
