The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is an electric SUV that seats six or seven people. It is a sister model to the Kia EV9.
Key findings:
* It is a huge vehicle with an impressive front, with closed grill. The front daytime running lights are pixelated. * Not many screaming out colors are offered in the color palette, rather subtle colors that people actually buy. * The vehicle is 5.06 m/ 199 in long; considered a full-size SUV in Europe. It offers 19 to 21 inch wheels. * The door handles are flush or come out. * It’s available in RWD or AWD. The one that was reviewed is a base RWD version. Acceleration is 9.4 seconds 0-100 kilometers per hour. The AWD version takes 5.2. * Top speed is 200 km/h, or 125 mph. * Taillights feature a pixelated design. * It charges quickly with Hyundai’s 800 volt technology. Charging from 10-80% takes 24 minutes. It has an electric charging flap with quick 800 volt charging. * The battery is 110 kWh gross, with an expected net of around 105 kWh. * It has a front trunk with a double-layered floor. A manual unlock function is inside for safety purposes. * The reviewer measured the cargo length with the third row up at 60 cm or ~24”, and 120-125 cm between the wheel arches, which is 48-50 inches. When the third row is down, it has about 910 liters of space. * Rear headrests fold down automatically with remote controls in the cargo area for the third row, so the front seat will not be in contact with the seat headrest. There are rear seat adjustments available. * There are adaptive cupholders, inductive charging pad, physical drive-mode selector switch. The tester notes that USB-C charging is really quick at 100 watts. * There's lots of room in the lower area for storage. * Dual 12.3 inch screens in the dash; while functional, they might look a bit out-of-date. * You get both digital instruments, clear to read, and the ability to change the views. * The review model contains cloth seats on base trims. H-Tex (high grade leatherette) may be available in Northern America. * You can drive with different levels of recuperation. The I-Pedal driving mode is powerful, and full one-pedal driving is easily available. The driving mode isn’t saved when restarting the vehicle, for safety reasons. It’s easy to deactivate using shortcut controls. * Steering doesn’t have a “dead zone” area and it felt light.
Overall, the Ioniq 9 is a bit more expensive, but offers significant flexibility. While suspension could be better over bumps, driving it still provides a smooth experience.
