New 2021 Citroen e-SpaceTourer electric minibus review – DrivingElectric

Video Summary

- The Citroën ë-SpaceTourer has the same components under the metal as not only the Dispatch Van but also the Peugeot 208 supermini, the Citroën C4 family hatch, and even the Posh DS3 Crossback.
- This electric version contains a 50-kilowatt-hour battery with a 134-brake horsepower electric motor, which translates into an official range of 143 miles on a charge. The range decreases with more passengers.
- Approximately 130 miles were seen on the trip read-out, though the battery held well around town, it drained much quicker on the motorway.
- Because every ë-SpaceTourer comes with 100-kilowatt charging as standard, a ten to eighty percent charge can be done in approximately half an hour. From a slower on-street charger or a seven-kilowatt home wall box, a full charge can be done in around seven and a half hours.
- It looks a lot like the diesel model aside from the charging port, small "ë" badges, and, if chosen, a green bar on the number plate.
- Inside the car, there is a power dial plus a battery gauge instead of a rev counter, and a small screen showing the necessary driving information.
- There is no conventional gear lever, leaving enough space for the front-seat passengers to get into the back, should they want to. Storage is good, with nets down in the front, a glove box, and a space on the dash for phones or wallets. Door bins are a good size as well.
- The central infotainment screen is on the small side, and it lacks navigation as standard.
- The menus could be easier to use, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
- Materials are a bit scratchy, but they feel hard-wearing.
- The "Field trim" model has been discontinued, but choosing the current business edition and adding a few options such as parking sensors and Sat Nav should match our car’s spec.
- The business edition costs around £32,000, while the top-spec car costs nearly £48,000.
- It comes with air conditioning, cruise control, and a touchscreen. The higher-spec Flair comes with more kit, including seventeen-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, heated leather seats, and head-up display and Sat Nav.
- The Espace Tourer is only available in the medium body length. Leg room and headroom are good; the back seats fold nicely, and there are ISO fix points on all six rear chairs. The seats are removable, though.
- The car's large tailgate can be awkward to open and close, as you need plenty of space behind the car.
- The sliding doors work wonders for side access.
- The car is easy to drive and can easily be put into Drive. Power and Econ mode are accessible, the latter limiting power and turning off the AC, while the former just gives power.
- B button adjusts the strength of the regen braking.
- The ë-SpaceTourer is pretty comfortable, although it can be a little bouncy over rough roads.
- The steering is light and numb, and it doesn't make you feel connected to the road.
- Overall, the car is a good option if you want to carry a lot of people.
- If you stay away from the pricey top-spec models, the Citroën ë-SpaceTourer is one of the best all-electric options available, although its moderate range means that it won't be a mainstream favorite anytime soon.
