- The new X1’s kidney grilles are almost perfect squares. - The headlights are thinner and have full LED tech as standard. - There are silver trim options on the standard car, black trim options on sportier versions, and bright blue accents on the all-electric iX1. - Flat creases run through the doors instead of the old curved lines. - Side windows resemble the windows of the larger X3. - Twenty-inch alloy wheels can be added to the X1 for the first time. - The cabin is totally different; BMW has gotten rid of almost all the buttons inside. - The center console has almost completely disappeared, replaced with an air vent and a curved infotainment screen. - The only physical controls are on the steering wheel and floating armrest. - Interior mood lighting, the panoramic glass roof, and an upgraded Harman Kardon stereo are optional. - The X1 is available with petrol and diesel power. - The entry-level X118i features a 1.5L turbo petrol with 136 hp (front-wheel drive). - The X120i has a 1.5L mild hybrid with a small electric motor for a combined 170 hp (front-wheel drive). - The X123i petrol features a 2L four-cylinder mild hybrid engine with four-wheel drive. - There's also the X118d and the X123d which use a 2L diesel engine with 150 hp, while the X123d gets a mild hybrid engine with 211 hp and all-wheel drive. - BMW has developed two new plug-in hybrid engines for the new X1 which have a claimed 353 miles per gallon. - The new X1 and iX1 come standard with BMW's latest iDrive 8 infotainment system. - A 10-inch central touch screen and an 11-inch digital driver's display form a large, curved display. - Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be used. - The 540L of boot space is 45L more than the previous model. - The PHEV models have 490L in the boot. - The electric iX1 features dual motors (one on each axle) and produces 313 hp in total and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. - Automatic emergency braking and parking assist come standard. - You cannot get a manual version anymore. - Petrol and diesel versions cost just over £35,000. - Top-specification versions could cost almost £47,000. - It is likely that the new electric model will cost more than £50,000.
