Part 2: 5 Reasons NOT To Buy or Lease a Hyundai Ioniq 5

Uploaded 1 year ago by The Ioniq Guy

Video Summary

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 shouldn't be considered if:
- You desire a rear windshield wiper. The car lacks one, although the 2025 mid-cycle refresh will include it due to owner complaints about visibility. Road salt and rain reduce rear visibility in winter and summer, respectively.
- The current software is basic, lacking significant new features outside EV charging route planning added a year ago. Over-the-air software updates are infrequent and mainly cosmetic, without updating the electrical components through software.
- Reliable 11kW home-level 2 charging is needed. Many owners report overheating charge ports, resulting in lower charging speeds. Hyundai is on its third charge port revision and faces a class-action lawsuit.
- There is an issue with the failing ICU (Integrated Control Unit), a component related to charging. When it fails, it leaves the car stranded, coasting to a stop. Replacement can take days or weeks, but it's covered during the warranty.
- Since 2025 refresh, features should address these problems. With a rear wiper, better software, new charge port, and ICU. Unless you want a deal, or the Limited Trim.
