Video Summary
Here's a summary of the YouTube video review of the Ford Explorer Electric:The electric SUV has an identity all its own despite sharing an architecture with Volkswagen ID.4, and a typically American, boxy, square design for the European market, and large 20-inch wheels.
The car has a massive presence and a marked personality; the differentiation of the interior is even greater. Some smaller details betray its origins, like the key and instruments.
The window switches, with only two buttons serving front and rear, are not preferable, nor are the steering wheel buttons, which are not precise, but the personalization is still successful. The large vertical display pivots with a simple but well-made system, uncovering cup holders, and objects can be hidden inside. There is a large central area of 17L, where even a PC can fit. An upper panel hides speakers, an audio system of the highest quality.
The available space and the floor are a little high, typical of electric cars due to the battery underneath, but the feeling of comfort is high. There's plenty of room in the rear seats with good finishes, however the plastic on the doors is rigid. Good trunk capacity, 407L. A bit high a load sill, but it has a double bottom to store the cable and other items. It's well-finished inside.
The reviewed car has a single rear engine and rear-wheel drive with 287 hp. A dual-motor version and all-wheel drive also exists.
The important 77kWh battery allows an average of 452 km of range. It comes with a Premium top configuration for almost €42,000, but the Explorer starts from €33,000. The good autonomy makes it an interesting car even for fleets.
The name Explorer suggests experiences beyond the daily routine, making the 2-wheel drive version the best option, guaranteeing superior autonomy: 587 km in the city, 513 on state highways, and 327 on highways.
Charging happens at two extremes: 11kW in AC, and up to 135kW in DC.
As for the review ratings: driving position (4/5), dash and controls (4/5), instrumentation (3/5), infotainment (4/5), climate control (4/5), visibility (3/5), finish (4/5), accessories (4/5), ADAS (4/5), habitability (4/5), trunk (3/5), comfort (4/5), powertrain (4/5), performance (4/5), steering (4/5), brakes (4/5), dynamic behavior (4/5), consumption (4/5), mobility services (4/5).
The electric SUV is square, spacious and passenger-friendly. It is a new contender, and it's a Ford at 100% inside and out.
