State Incentives
Massachusetts offers various incentives to promote EV adoption. You can receive rebates for purchasing or leasing new or used EVs, as well as rebates for installing home charging stations. Some utilities provide discounts on electricity rates for off-peak charging, and certain municipalities offer additional rebates and incentives for EV charging.

Massachusetts EV Rebates (MOR-EV)
Category: EV Rebates Massachusetts offers residents, non-profits, and businesses rebates of up to $3,500 for the purchase or lease of eligible new or used EVs.
Applicants must apply within three months of the vehicle purchase or lease date and must retain ownership of the vehicle for a minimum of 36 months.
An additional $1,500 rebate is available to applicants participating in an eligible income-qualified state assistance program. -
EV Charging Wiring Upgrade Rebate • National Grid
Category: Charger Rebates National Grid offers rebates of up to $1,000 for residential customers and up to $2,000 for multi-unit dwellings to cover wiring upgrades.
Low-income residents may qualify for an additional rebate of up to $700 for EV charging station installation.
The wiring upgrade or charging station installation must be completed after the rebate is issued. -
Massachusetts NextZero Program
Category: Charger Rebates Massachusetts offers incentives for residents who purchase or install qualifying electric vehicle charging stations. The amount and type of incentives vary by location. -
EV Charging Incentive • Eversource
Category: Electricity Discounts Eversource offers rebates to residential customers who charge their EV during off-peak hours. -
EV Charging Station Discount • Braintree Electric Light Department
Category: Charger Rebates BELD offers customers a discount of $250 for the purchase of a qualified Level 2 EV charging station. To qualify, customers must enroll in the Bring Your Own Charger Program. -
EV Charging Incentive • Braintree Electric Light Department
Category: Electricity Discounts BELD’s Smart Charging Program offers a bill credit of $8 per month to customers that charge their EVs during off-peak hours. -
EV Charging Station Rebate • National Grid
Category: Charger Rebates National Grid provides rebates for EV charging installations. Residential customers can get up to $700, while multi-unit dwellings can receive up to $1,400.
Low-income residents may qualify for up to $1,000 ($2,000 for MUDs) for pre-wiring or up to $700 for purchasing a charger. All participants must enroll in the off-peak charging program. -
Off-Peak EV Charging Incentive • National Grid
Category: Electricity Discounts National Grid offers residential customers an annual bill credit averaging $100 and a $50 enrollment incentive for charging their EVs during off-peak hours. -
EV Rebate • Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations
Category: EV Rebates SELCO offers $1,000 rebates to residential and commercial customers for the purchase of a new or pre-owned EV and $800 for the lease of a new EV.
Income-qualified residential customers are eligible for an increased rebate amount. -
EV Charging Station Rebate • Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations
Category: Charger Rebates SELCO offers residential customers a rebate of up to $700 ($700 or the cost of the charger, whichever is less) for the purchase and installation of a qualified Level 2 EV charging station.

Federal Incentives
The U.S. federal government offers EV tax credits to make going electric more affordable! New EV buyers may qualify for up to a $7,500 tax credit, depending on the car’s specs and buyer’s income. For pre-owned EVs, you could receive up to $4,000. Plus, homeowners in low-income or rural areas can get up to $1,000 for installing an EV charger.

Federal Tax Credit for New Electric Vehicles
Category: Tax Benefits All-electric vehicles purchased new in 2023 or after may be eligible for a federal income tax credit of up to $7,500. The credit is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. Also, you can't apply any excess credit to future tax years.
The availability of the credit will depend on several factors: Vehicle's MSRP, Final assembly location, Battery component and/or critical minerals sourcing, Taxpayer’s modified adjusted gross income (AGI). -
Federal Tax Credit for Pre-Owned Electric Vehicles
Category: Tax Benefits Pre-owned all-electric vehicles purchased in 2023 or after may be eligible for a federal income tax credit. The credit equals 30% percent of the sale price up to a maximum credit of $4,000. The credit is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. Also, you can't apply any excess credit to future tax years.
The vehicle must be purchased from a dealer, have a sale price of $25,000 or less, and must have a model year two years prior to the current calendar year. -
Federal EV Charger Tax Credit
Category: Tax Benefits Individuals in low-income communities and non-urban areas who purchase qualified residential EV charger after January 1, 2023, may receive a tax credit of up to $1,000.
In order to qualify, individuals need to be located in low-income community census tracts or non-urban census tracts as defined in IRS Notice 2024-20.
