State Incentives
New Jersey offers a variety of incentives for EV owners. You can get rebates on both new and used EVs, as well as rebates for installing home charging stations. Additionally, EVs are exempt from state sales tax, and EV owners can enjoy discounts on tolls and access to HOV lanes. Several utility companies also offer rebates and time-of-use electricity rates for EV charging.

New Jersey EV and EV Charging Station Rebate
Category: EV Rebates New Jersey offers EV rebates based on vehicle price and range. Cars under $45,000 get up to $4,000, while cars priced between $45,000 and $55,000 get up to $1,500. An extra $250 rebate is available for home Level 2 chargers. -
New Jersey EV Tax Exemption
Category: Tax Benefits EVs sold, rented, or leased in New Jersey before October 1, 2024, are exempt from state sales and use tax. EVs sold on or after October 1, 2024, and before July 1, 2025, will be subject to a 3.3125% tax. -
New Jersey EV Toll Discount Program
Category: HOV Lane Access EV owners receive a 10% discount on off-peak New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway toll rates. EVs that meet the California Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle standard must register with New Jersey E-ZPass -
New Jersey High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Exemption
Category: HOV Lane Access New Jersey Turnpike Authority allows qualified electric vehicles to travel in the HOV lanes located between Interchange 11 and Interchange 14 on the New Jersey Turnpike. -
Residential EV Charging Station Installation Rebate and TOU Rate • PSE&G
Category: Charger Rebates PSE&G offers residential customers a rebate of up to $1,500 for the installation of a Level 2 EV charging station. Participants may also be eligible for a rebate of up to $5,000 for pole-to-meter utility service upgrades. PSE&G also offers a time-of-use (TOU) rate to residential customers. -
EV Charging Station Rebates • Atlantic City Electric
Category: Charger Rebates Atlantic City Electric offers rebates for Level 2 EV charging station installations. Residential customers can receive up to $1,000, while multi-unit dwellings qualify for up to $6,700 per port in overburdened communities. -
EV Charging Station Incentives and TOU Rate • Jersey Central Power & Light
Category: Charger Rebates Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) offers eligible customers up to $7,000 in incentives for property preparation for EV charger installation. This includes up to $1,500 for customer electrical upgrades and up to $5,500 for utility upgrades. JCP&L also offers a time-of-use (TOU) rate to residential customers. -
EV Charging Station Rebate and TOU Rate • Rockland Electric Company
Category: Charger Rebates Rockland Electric Company offers a rebate of up to $1,000 to cover customer-based costs for installing a Level 2 EV charger. An additional rebate of up to $5,000 is available to cover utility-based costs. Rockland Electric Company also offers a time-of-use (TOU) rate to residential customers.

Federal Incentives
The U.S. federal government offers EV tax credits to make going electric more affordable! New EV buyers may qualify for up to a $7,500 tax credit, depending on the car’s specs and buyer’s income. For pre-owned EVs, you could receive up to $4,000. Plus, homeowners in low-income or rural areas can get up to $1,000 for installing an EV charger.

Federal Tax Credit for New Electric Vehicles
Category: Tax Benefits All-electric vehicles purchased new in 2023 or after may be eligible for a federal income tax credit of up to $7,500. The credit is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. Also, you can't apply any excess credit to future tax years.
The availability of the credit will depend on several factors: Vehicle's MSRP, Final assembly location, Battery component and/or critical minerals sourcing, Taxpayer’s modified adjusted gross income (AGI). -
Federal Tax Credit for Pre-Owned Electric Vehicles
Category: Tax Benefits Pre-owned all-electric vehicles purchased in 2023 or after may be eligible for a federal income tax credit. The credit equals 30% percent of the sale price up to a maximum credit of $4,000. The credit is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. Also, you can't apply any excess credit to future tax years.
The vehicle must be purchased from a dealer, have a sale price of $25,000 or less, and must have a model year two years prior to the current calendar year. -
Federal EV Charger Tax Credit
Category: Tax Benefits Individuals in low-income communities and non-urban areas who purchase qualified residential EV charger after January 1, 2023, may receive a tax credit of up to $1,000.
In order to qualify, individuals need to be located in low-income community census tracts or non-urban census tracts as defined in IRS Notice 2024-20.
