The Volvo EX90 is an all-electric three-row SUV built on the same platform as the Polestar 3. It can seat up to seven passengers. The standard twin motor EX90 has a combined 408 horsepower with all-wheel drive getting it from zero to sixty in around 5.7 seconds. The Twin Motor Performance model bumps the horsepower up to 510, shaving a whole second off its zero to sixty sprint to 4.7 seconds.
The EX90 has available dual chamber air suspension for a plusher ride. The battery is a flat skateboard style, 111-kilowatt hour battery. It can charge up to 250 kilowatts on a DC fast charger adding 111 miles of range in 10 minutes and a 10% to 80% charge in roughly 30 minutes. The battery uses preconditioning to optimize temperatures for charging. The EX90 is the first Volvo capable of bidirectional charging, useful to power electronic devices and possibly even homes.
The brake feel is squishy, but one-pedal drive can be activated on the infotainment screen. The automatic version of one-pedal drive engages when getting too close to other cars. There is no option to change the regenerative brake feel. Range is estimated at 296 to 308 miles depending on the trim. Driver ergonomics and many settings are embedded in the large infotainment screen.
The seats in the first two rows are comfortable and supportive. The driver has plenty of leg and headroom, and thigh extensions are available. There is a lump in the front passenger side footwell. Although visibility is good, the rear window is blocked somewhat by the C-pillar. The capacitive touch buttons sometimes offer poor feedback.
Folding both the second and third-row seats yields 67.6 cubic feet of space. Underfloor storage is included. The base EX90 Plus model starts at $81,290, and the EX90 Twin Motor Performance starts at $86,290. Base models come with 20-inch wheels, a heads-up display, panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera, among other things. Volvo is aiming for the EX90 to be the safest Volvo ever made with sensors inside the cabin monitoring head and eye movements. A roof-mounted LiDAR works with cameras for enhanced safety. The Ex90 also features Pilot Assist with lane change assist function.
