A used-car bargain? 2025 BMW i5 eDrive 40 review

Video Summary

The BMW i5 is a great all-rounder that hits the right spots but feels overpriced at full price. At roughly £80,000 new, it has depreciated nearly half its original value in less than 2 years.
Despite its length of over 5 meters, the driving dynamics are not what they used to be in BMW cars.
The car has a large 81 kWh battery, with an estimated range of 374 miles, although more like 300 in real-world conditions. Fast charging at 205 kW takes about half an hour to get from 10 to 80 percent. It features rear-wheel drive, 340 horsepower, and a weight of 2.2 tons.
A petrol version has only around 200 horsepower.
The light steering offers little feedback.
Looks are just okay, with light-up grille and LED headlights.
It doesn't have a front trunk.
Back has leftover remnants from other models, and trying to look like it's got exhaust, but it hasn't. There's a rather large trunk at 490L
Interior is cozy, but infotainment system is too distracting and there are too many small icons; the voice recognition is safer to use. It comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus wireless chargers. The leather's good, but the light bars are quite chintzy.
There's good rear seat space with USB-C ports. A large hump in the middle of the floor makes the seating uncomfortable for three adults. There are ISOFIX points easy to reach, though some cost-cutting measures are evident, with the plain backs of the front seats.
Dynamic regenerative braking provides smooth deceleration. It feels like a 7-series. This "wafter" is comfortable and refined, but not thrilling to drive and has an understated level of luxury for an electric BMW.
