Budget EV test! GWM Ora 2024 review

Uploaded 2 years ago by The Right Car?

Video Summary

Two GWM Ora variants are available: standard and extended range; prices have dropped since the first review. Standard gear includes LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, leatherette seat trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, twin 10.25-inch screens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and digital instrumentation for the driver.

The standard range price is $39,990, while the extended range price is $45,990. The Ultra version has additional features including a panoramic sunroof, heated/cooled/massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, and an electric tailgate, although its price is a little high. There is also the GT version to come, which is a sporty version.

Alternatives to the Ora include the MG4 EV and the BYD Atto 3, though the BYD Dolphin may also be considered.

The Ora is roughly the same size as other small hatchbacks. The styling looks especially diminutive and is very curvy, cute, and cuddly. It has five seats and is, in some ways, family-friendly. Its boot capacity is 228 liters, which is basic.

The interior feels pretty nice for the price. Ease of use for some controls could be improved.

On the driving experience: the ride is mostly good and, for the money, fairly impressive. The ride on coarse roads is frustratingly noisy. Tires are not of particularly good quality.

Efficiency is 15.0kWh per 100km (WLTP), which is typical for its size.

The Ora has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating (2022) and features adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian/cyclist/junction detection, lane-keeping systems, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a panoramic 360-degree camera. GWM offers a seven-year unlimited km warranty for car and battery for private buyers, but the warranty for commercial buyers is limited to 150,000km. Services are $99 per service for the first five years.

This car has a lot of appeal. The reviewer likes the look and the interior.

The reviewer thinks the car has good value for the price, though it was ultimately a family car fit for him due to cargo constraints.
