The Silverado EV reminds one of the older Chevy Avalanche in design. The Silverado EV RST Max is a very large vehicle, with the model tested measuring 233.1 inches long, almost 80 inches wide, and 84 inches tall. The Silverado EV includes a multiflex tailgate that folds into a set of steps or a bench. Although not on this truck, an audio system could be installed into it for optimal tailgating.
The multiflex mid-gate also extends the bed into the space where the rear seats would be. The front trunk is power operated, however the opening is not as wide or deep as the F-150s. The steering wheel is three-spoke, almost four because of the shape, and is described as having a good feel. One of the complaints with the Silverado EV is it lacks Apple CarPlay. That said, the 17.7 inch diagonal infotainment system is very responsive. Chevrolet doesn't disclose the precise weight of the Silverado EV, but it is said to be approximately 8,700 lbs.
The F-150 Lightning is very similar in style and shape to a traditional F-150, with fluorescent tubes for the light bar in the front, and a geometric pattern for the grille area. This F-150 is a Lariat trim. The test model came in below $100,000. It also has plenty of storage in the doors, and can fit multiple drinks into its lower area. The interior had a quasidemi finish and stitching.
The centre touch screen has been found to have a glitch and audio streaming would sometimes disappear. The F-150 is easier to drive because it's more familiar, but the stiffer suspension means it can be rough, but it’s more nimble.
The Super Cruise system is excellent. The tested F-150 Lariat had 20 inch alloy wheels with ample side wall. As a downside, the tail gate doesn't power lift, it can only be released with power. When it comes to motors and the battery, Chevy doesn’t offer a lot of details. The total is 760 horsepower when operating wide open Watts. For normal mode, the horsepower numbers are not known.
While very different, the F-150 lightning is a better truck.
