Video Summary
The Renault 5's main goal is to be an affordable EV, starting at 25,000 euros for base models with a small battery and be iconic and fun. The car's vintage predecessor was iconic, and this R5 seeks to be the same.
It comes in five colors, including the green and yellow seen in the video. This trim is the Techno trim. The daytime running lights are cool, and turning indicators are fun. A notable fun feature is the number 5 on the hood, which acts as a battery indicator that shows the status of the battery when charging or opening and closing the car.
The R5 is 3.92 m or 154" long with 18-inch wheels and aluminum on the higher trim. The charging port is on the front driver's side, with 11kw AC and 100kw DC peak charging. They say it can charge 15-80% in 30 minutes. The smaller battery will only have AC charging. The bigger battery today is 52kWh, and the smaller one will be 40 kWh.
The heat pump is standard in the higher trim and can have vehicle to load to connect it to a household. The rear has an iconic design with technological style tail lamps. People on the streets really loved the car from the exterior.
It is always front-wheel drive. The 150hp version is quick and with lower hp versions available for the smaller battery.
The key card design is the typical Renault type and door closing sound is average quality.
The techno trim has a blue denim style, and the seats are wide and comfortable. Other trims have other colors on the inside. The steering wheel has mixed capacitive and hard buttons.
There is a lot of hard plastic and a bit of space for knees when driving and closing the door. The leatherette steering wheel is good, and Renault is going for completely animal-free in all their designs.
The front does not have a frunk, it is relatively short inside, and has a high center of gravity, with a 330 L trunk.
From driving around town, it felt fun to drive but a bit limited.
Overall the Renault 5 is deemed fun with decent prices, but its smallness leads to its limitation for longer travel.
