Here is the summary of the YouTube video.
This electric Ford Explorer is a significant step for the company into the EV market. The SUV runs on a Volkswagen chassis and powertrain. It was developed to look, feel, and drive like a European Ford should. It is impossible to overstate the significance of this car for Ford. The Cologne factory that produces it had a 2 billion euro refit to produce EVs. This Ford Explorer shares identical engineering with its showroom stablemate, the new Era Capri.
The brand must consider whether it should stay in Europe. To start with an all-electric future, they had 380,000 staff let go. It’s hard to vaguely know the Explorer name because the SUV has been so successful in the US, with plug-in hybrid versions sold in small numbers in Europe. The new breed has little in common with those American-derived combustion predecessors. Much of the engineering has been borrowed from the VW group. The brand promises the Explorer will feel like a Ford to drive.
The test car had steering, brakes, dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars specially tuned for 'Fordness'. The tires were bespoke Continental tires. The rear-wheel drive model is a choice of two variants, with 170 ps and 233 miles of combined cycle range, or 286 ps and 374 miles of range. As for the VW ID4, there is a dual-motor all-wheel drive model at the top of the line. With a curb weight of 2.1 tons, it dispatches from 0 to 62 mph in 5.3 seconds to its 112 mph top speed. There's no over the steering wheel paddles to control the brake regeneration.
In terms of design, a large amount of time was spent deciding whether to retain the trapezoidal front grill. The review found a 3D sculpted soundbar and megaconsole were unusual and very Ford-oriented. The rear cabin has a smaller trunk space than VW ID4. Lacking standard run flat tires. The review said a tiny glove box to start with all 19 - 21" wheels. Also, some have a 3mm gift on every interior. Rear seats are comfortable and are available at three percent charge for taxation. Standard equipment includes lane keeping aid, drowsy monitor, pre-collision assist, adaptive cruise control with lane centering and a speed limiter. Overall, thanks to its VW engineered roots, what this Ford needs is something fundamental the creation of new mainstream models.
