Xiaomi YU7 Review - Tesla Model Y Killer?

Uploaded 1 month ago by InsideEVs

Video Summary

The Xiaomi YU7 is a well-engineered car that both rides well and handles well. Being a crossover, it doesn't feel very tall. The suspension is a dual-chambered air suspension on all four corners with active ride handling to ensure corners are as flat as possible. The steering is a little light, but communicative, not feeling artificial.
The YU7 Max is the top-of-the-range trim, and the battery is 101 kWh. With two motors, one in the front and one in the back, it has a little over 780 horsepower, with zero to sixty in 3 seconds. The zero-gravity seats on both sides. Charging time from 10% to 80% is about 12 minutes at a maximum speed of 460 kilowatts. With the lower trims and smaller battery, the 10 to 80% sprint takes 21 minutes at a max speed of about 250 kilowatts.
The software runs the same OS as Xiaomi’s phones: It’s speedy and responsive, and includes Apple Music and Carplay. It is built with a hypervision panoramic display that projects driving info on the windshield. The YU7 also has anti-car sickness features. It is quieter than luxury cars in the segment, has double-paned glass, and does well with the regenerative braking.
The styling is subjective, but there are definitely certain features that are bound to be compared to a Ferrari. The manufacturer should take note of the car as fast EVs feel big and heavy, which this car is not. As Xiaomi’s second car ever, it’s surprisingly enjoyable and makes Tesla and some other more upscale EVs look bad.
