Overview
Get ready for the return of the legend, electrified and with a serious attitude. The 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Long GTX is the top-dog, all-wheel-drive performance version of the highly anticipated electric microbus. Combining iconic retro design with three-row seating and potent dual-motor power, the GTX is positioned as the ultimate family hauler for those who refuse to be boring. While official US pricing hasn't been announced, expect this feature-packed, sporty trim to start north of $65,000, bringing a unique blend of style, space, and speed to the EV market.
What's New for 2025?
While the entire long-wheelbase ID. Buzz is new to the US for 2025, the GTX trim is the real headliner. It's the first time we're seeing a high-performance, all-wheel-drive version of the electric bus on our shores. This model introduces a powerful dual-motor powertrain, a larger battery, and exclusive sporty styling cues not found on other trims. It’s the spicy, all-weather option that transforms the chill bus into a people-hauler with some serious get-up-and-go, answering the call for more power and capability in the lineup.
Design & Exterior
The GTX takes the ID. Buzz's charming design and gives it a sporty edge. It features unique front and rear bumpers with a honeycomb grille, blacked-out logos and trim, and aggressive 21-inch alloy wheels. This long-wheelbase version has a commanding presence, stretching 195.4 inches in length and standing 75.7 inches tall on a massive 127.5-inch wheelbase. The GTX is the ID. Buzz that's been hitting the gym, looking muscular and ready to roll while keeping its friendly, retro-futuristic face that is sure to turn heads everywhere it goes.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the GTX gets a sporty makeover with a darker theme, red contrast stitching, and premium, supportive seats. It’s incredibly versatile, offering configurations for five, six, or seven passengers. Tech is dominated by a large central touchscreen running VW's latest infotainment software, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Cargo space is frankly astonishing; you get a massive 75.5 cubic feet behind the second row. Fold all the seats down, and you unleash a cavernous 145.5 cubic feet of space, though there's no frunk for extra storage up front.
Performance & Driving Experience
This isn't your grandad's microbus. The GTX packs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, using an induction motor up front and a permanent magnet motor at the rear to deliver a combined 335 horsepower and a mighty 501 lb-ft of torque. That's enough grunt to hustle this van from 0-60 mph in a swift 6.1 seconds, with a top speed of 99 mph. The instant torque makes it feel punchy around town, while the AWD provides confident, all-weather traction. Expect a quiet, comfortable ride with a surprising amount of hustle.
Range, Battery & Charging
The GTX is powered by a substantial 86 kWh usable battery pack. Green Cars Compare calculates a real-world range of about 250 miles, with an impressive efficiency of 2.91 mi/kWh. When it’s time to juice up, the 11 kW on-board AC charger can easily handle an overnight top-off. For road trips, it can pull power from a DC fast charger at speeds up to 200 kW, rocketing the battery from 10-80% in under 30 minutes through its CCS Type 1 port. It has the legs and the fast-charging chops for serious family adventures.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
While official US safety ratings from the NHTSA are still pending, the ID. Buzz GTX is expected to be a top performer. It will come standard with Volkswagen's comprehensive IQ.DRIVE suite of driver-assistance systems. This package includes essentials like Forward Collision Warning, Automated Emergency Braking, and Blind Spot Monitoring. It also features advanced tech like Lane Keeping Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, making highway drives safer and significantly less stressful in a vehicle designed for the whole family.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Volkswagen backs the ID. Buzz GTX with a solid warranty, providing peace of mind for new owners. The package includes a 4-year/50,000-mile basic vehicle warranty and an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty for the high-voltage battery, guaranteeing it will retain at least 70% of its original capacity. On top of that, VW's Carefree Coverage plan adds two years or 20,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance and three years of 24/7 roadside assistance, making ownership as stress-free as the van’s vibes.
