Fastest Charging Electric Vehicles 2025: Shortest DC Charging Times

Curious which electric vehicles charge the fastest and won’t keep you waiting around at charging stations?

To make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of the top EVs with the quickest recharging times, organized by body style. That way, you can focus only on the types of vehicles you’re actually interested in.

Let’s take a closer look at the fastest-charging models in today’s EV market — the true kings of the plug.

To identify the real fast-charging leaders, we need to go beyond just looking at peak DC charging speeds. While impressive figures like 350 kW (as seen in the GMC Hummer EV) sound great, they don’t tell the full story, especially when that same Hummer charges slower than a Tesla Model 3 due to its massive battery.

Instead, we're ranking EVs by how many miles of range they can recover in a 10-minute DC charging session. This metric offers a much clearer picture of real-world charging performance by factoring in both charging power and efficiency.

Ready to dive in? Let’s start with the most popular EV category: SUVs.

SUVs remain the most popular body type on the market, so it’s only natural to ask which electric SUVs charge the fastest?

With so many contenders out there, we’ve divided them into three distinct categories to keep things clear. Let’s reveal the top performers.

And the fastest-charging budget SUV in the U.S. is… the Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD! It’s hardly a surprise — Tesla has long led the industry in charging performance.

With the latest “Juniper” update, the Model Y now adds up to 178 miles (286 km) in just 10 minutes on a fast DC charger. An impressive result.

This time, results vary between Europe and the U.S., where two different SUVs have set new benchmarks in charging performance.

In Europe, the fastest-charging SUV is the all-new Smart #5 Premium/Pro+, which ranks third overall among all EVs with an impressive ability to gain 212 miles (342 km) of range in just 10 minutes. A remarkable feat, especially considering its starting price is just above €50,000.

In the U.S., the Smart brand isn’t available yet, but American buyers can still access outstanding fast-charging performance with the Genesis GV60 Standard AWD. It delivers up to 190 miles (305 km) of range in 10 minutes and is priced just above $50,000 as well.

When it comes to choosing a used electric SUV, our recommendation stays nearly identical to our top pick — it's once again the Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD, but in its earlier generation.

This version is still capable of adding 166 miles (267 km) of range within just 10 minutes of DC fast charging, which remains a strong performance even by today’s standards.

Sedans make up a significant share of the electric vehicle market. In this list, we’ve also included liftbacks, as the difference between them is minimal.

Thanks to their sleek design and better aerodynamics, electric sedans and liftbacks typically offer longer driving ranges than other body styles.

Let’s explore which of these models stand out as the best options for long-distance journeys.

Just like with electric SUVs, if you're looking for the fastest charging sedan, Tesla once again takes the lead.

The Model 3 Long Range, available in both RWD and AWD variants, can recover up to 184 miles (296 km) of range in just 10 minutes and both trims are priced under $50K when new.

The ultimate choice for long-distance travel isn’t just about fast charging, it’s also about unmatched range, and that’s where the Lucid Air Grand Touring excels.

This EV can gain a remarkable 201 miles (323 km) in a 10-minute charging session, giving you peace of mind on every journey by minimizing both charging stops and downtime. It’s a rare and valuable combination.

When it comes to used EVs, we need to separate the U.S. and European markets again. In the U.S., the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range stands out, offering top-tier charging capabilities — up to 193 miles (311 km) added in just 10 minutes.

In Europe, however, that trim isn't available. But there’s still a strong contender: the more accessible and popular Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD (first generation), which can recharge 178 miles (286 km) in 10 minutes — still an excellent figure.

Electric trucks have already proven themselves as some of the most practical and versatile vehicles for both daily tasks and professional use.

But how do you make them even better? The answer is fast charging. By minimizing downtime, every minute saved on charging translates into more productivity.

Let’s take a look at which manufacturers have already delivered electric trucks with impressive charging capabilities.

It was an easy choice in this category — only one electric pickup is currently available: the Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck Standard Range.

It adds 81 miles (130 km) of range in a 10-minute charge, not groundbreaking, but try finding another new electric truck at this price point.

It’s impressive to see one brand dominate across so many categories, but credit where it’s due: the Tesla Cybertruck Long Range RWD leads the electric truck segment with 148 miles (238 km) of range added in just 10 minutes. With numbers like that, it's hard to claim Tesla is falling behind.

When it comes to the top used electric pickup with true fast-charging capabilities, we’ve got something unique to highlight: the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1.

This limited-edition model was available only for one year when GMC launched its new electric truck lineup. It stands out with the best real-world range among non-commercial electric pickups to date.

And it's not just about range — the charging speed impresses as well. In just a short coffee break, the Sierra EV can add up to 114 miles (184 km) of range, helping you reach your destination with ease.

Now it's time to explore the smallest contenders on the EV market — compact hatchbacks that thrive in city environments. These tiny yet mighty vehicles prove that small size doesn’t mean slow charging.

We've gathered the top hatchbacks that combine urban-friendly dimensions with impressive recharging capabilities.

Volkswagen ID.3 GTX (Image by Volkswagen)
Volkswagen ID.3 GTX (Image by Volkswagen)

This is the first category that blends budget-friendly pricing with overall fast-charging performance. In Europe, the newly launched ID.3 GTX takes the crown.

Priced around €50K, it sets a new benchmark for electric hatchbacks by delivering 120 miles (192 km) of range in just 10 minutes of charging.

In the U.S., the hatchback market is much smaller, but there’s still one standout — and it’s the tiniest EV available: the Fiat 500e. All it takes is 57 miles (92 km) in 10 minutes to secure the top spot in its segment across the American market.

Cupra Born (Image by Motorpoint)

When it comes to the used market, we once again see a regional divide.

In Europe, there's an ID.3 sibling with nearly identical charging performance, but a far more aggressive and sporty design. The Cupra Born 77 kWh not only delivers quick acceleration but can also add up to 103 miles (165 km) in just 10 minutes.

In the U.S., the title goes to one of the original trailblazers: the Nissan Leaf with the 62 kWh battery. Despite its age, it can still deliver 57 miles (91 km) during a brief charging stop — solid performance for a veteran EV.

If an SUV doesn’t offer enough room for your large family but you still want to avoid long charging stops, we’ve got you covered.

Meet the top electric minivans that combine generous space with the fastest charging times, keeping your family moving without the wait.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz (Image by Motor Authority)

In a rare case of unity between the U.S. and European markets, both sides welcome the same standout EV: the VW ID. Buzz Long Pro S.

This spacious, retro-futuristic van features Volkswagen’s latest technology and is capable of adding up to 91 miles (146 km) of range in just 10 minutes. That’s enough time for a short walk with your dog and by the time you’re back, you’ve nearly gained 100 extra miles.

However, the Pro S trim of the ID. Buzz isn’t the absolute fastest when it comes to charging. So who takes the crown?

You don’t have to look far, it’s another ID.Buzz, this time in the Long GTX trim. While it comes at a higher price, it rewards you with ultra-quick acceleration for a minivan and squeezes out just a bit more range per 10-minute fast charge — 93 miles (150 km). Well done, Volkswagen!

In the U.S., the GTX trim isn’t currently available, but we recommend considering the Pro S 4MOTION trim, which still delivers a strong 91 miles (146 km) in just a 10-minute charging session.

While the ID. Buzz remains the only electric passenger van available on the used market in the U.S., Europe offers a broader selection. Still, we managed to find a standout — the Citroën e-Berlingo M 50 kWh.

This practical French van delivers solid performance, capable of adding 53 miles (85 km) of range in just 10 minutes. It may not beat the VW in raw numbers, but it's still an impressive figure for its class.

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re looking for serious cargo space. Since this body style is far more popular in Europe than in the U.S., most of the top contenders come from across the Atlantic, but don’t worry, we’ve included a few American options too.

Here are the top load-luggers with impressively fast charging capabilities.

Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer (Image by Volkswagen)

This category applies exclusively to Europe, as there are currently no budget-friendly electric wagons available in the U.S.

That said, we’ve selected a standout flagship model from Volkswagen: the ID.7 Tourer Pro S. It not only offers an impressive amount of cargo space but also delivers up to 136 miles (218 km) of range in just 10 minutes of charging — making it one of the best electric wagons you can buy in Europe today.

Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo (Image by Porsche)

Volkswagen takes the lead once again, this time with help from its premium sibling — Porsche. The Taycan Sport Turismo is sold in both the U.S. and Europe, but there are a few differences.

In the U.S., the only available trim is the GTS, capable of adding up to 161 miles (259 km) of range in just 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, Europe gets access to the RWD Plus trim, which offers slightly more — up to 172 miles (276 km) of added range.

The used market for electric wagons isn’t particularly large in either Europe or the U.S. Your only real option is a pre-owned Taycan Sport Turismo or Cross Turismo.

Finally, let’s turn to the most stylish and performance-focused electric vehicles you can buy. In this section, we’ve gathered all-electric coupes, roadsters, and convertibles.

These EVs aren’t just built to look cool, but to charge impressively fast as well.

Once again, we need to divide the European and U.S. markets.

In the U.S., there’s only one real contender in this category — the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T. This all-new electric muscle car from Stellantis can add 94 miles (151 km) of range during a quick lunch break. A great advantage if you want to keep up with traditional gas-powered muscle cars.

In Europe, however, there’s a standout option that turns just as many heads, if not more. Meet the MG Cyberster Trophy Single Motor, a British-designed roadster powered by Chinese technology. It features dramatic, Lambo-style doors and can add 83 miles (134 km) while you’re busy posing for pictures beside it.

Rimac Nevera (Image by TopGear)

This section might be the most surprising and frankly, the most thrilling of the entire article. Why? Because the result is completely unexpected.

Without further suspense, let us introduce the winner: the Rimac Nevera. This electric hypercar, priced at a jaw-dropping $2.2 million, is not only a design masterpiece but also a technological marvel. It can add an astonishing 192 miles (309 km) in just 10 minutes.

Take a moment to admire it, we doubt you’ve ever seen something quite so stunning and breathtaking.

Since the EV market still offers very few coupe and roadster style models, there’s only one option currently available on the used market: the Tesla Roadster 2.5 Sport.

As one of the first electric cars ever produced and the vehicle that launched Tesla’s journey it holds a special place in automotive history. And fittingly, this is where we wrap up the article, as this pioneering EV doesn’t support fast charging!

We’ve guided you through the world of truly fast-charging EVs. It’s now clear that every body style category offers standout models that recharge impressively fast.
