Overview
The Jaguar I-Pace EV400 is a pioneering premium electric SUV that brilliantly blends stunning concept-car looks with genuinely sporty driving dynamics. It was one of the first legacy automakers to throw down the gauntlet to Tesla, and it still feels special today. For its final 2024 model year, the refined EV400 R-Dynamic trim became the de facto standard. While production has ceased, new models started at €92,400, with used examples now a compelling proposition from around €35,990 for those seeking style and substance in their EV.
What's New for 2024?
For its final model year, the 2024 I-Pace received a subtle but effective nip-and-tuck. The most noticeable change is the sleek, smooth front 'grille' panel, which tidies up the front end for a more contemporary EV look. Jaguar simplified the lineup, essentially making the well-equipped R-Dynamic model the standard, which includes subtle satin grey exterior details on the grille surround and lower trim. Diamond-turned wheels and a body-coloured rear diffuser round out the updates, ensuring this pioneering EV went out on a high note, looking sharper than ever before.
Design & Exterior
The I-Pace still looks like it drove straight off a motor show stand. Its cab-forward design, short overhangs, and muscular haunches give it a dramatic, low-slung stance that defies typical SUV conventions. Measuring 4682 mm long, 1895 mm wide, and just 1566 mm tall, its proportions are more like a high-riding sports car than a bulky SUV. The 2024 update with the smooth grille and standard R-Dynamic body kit gives it a clean, modern aesthetic. It's a proper head-turner that has aged remarkably well, proving great design is timeless.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the I-Pace boasts a plush, driver-focused cockpit that feels properly premium. The material quality is top-notch, with a mix of soft-touch surfaces and cool metal trims creating a sophisticated ambiance for its five occupants. Tech is handled by Jaguar’s slick Pivi Pro infotainment system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For practicality, you get a decent 505-litre boot, which expands to a useful 1163 litres with the rear seats folded. Plus, there’s a handy 27-litre 'frunk' under the bonnet for stashing charging cables.
Performance & Driving Experience
This is where the I-Pace really shines. With dual Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors delivering standard all-wheel drive, it packs a serious punch. You get a combined 294 kW and a whopping 696 Nm of instant torque, launching it from 0-100 km/h in a brisk 4.8 seconds. It feels properly quick off the line. More importantly, it handles like a true Jaguar—agile and engaging in the corners, yet with a comfortable and composed ride. Strong, adjustable regenerative braking allows for one-pedal driving, making it a rewarding and genuinely fun car to pilot.
Range, Battery & Charging
The I-Pace is powered by an 84.7 kWh usable battery pack, which Green Cars Compare calculates should deliver a real-world range of around 381 kilometres, with an efficiency of 4.5 km/kWh. For home charging, the standard 11 kW on-board AC charger can top up the battery overnight in about 8.5 hours. When you're on the road, the 400V architecture supports DC fast charging via its CCS Type 2 port, but it maxes out at 100 kW. This is a bit behind the latest rivals but still gets the job done for long-distance journeys.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a strong suit for the I-Pace, backed by a top-tier 5-star Euro NCAP rating. It comes packed with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance systems as standard on this final-year trim. This includes adaptive cruise control with steering assist, which makes long motorway slogs a breeze. You also get blind-spot monitoring, a 3D surround camera system, lane-keep assist, and emergency braking all included. It’s a reassuring package that provides confidence whether you’re navigating tight city streets or cruising on the open road, keeping you well-protected.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
For peace of mind, Jaguar backs the I-Pace with a comprehensive warranty. In Europe, this typically includes a 3-year/100,000 km basic vehicle warranty. The crucial high-voltage battery is covered for a much longer period, usually 8 years or 160,000 km, with a guarantee that it will retain at least 70% of its original capacity. While Jaguar’s historical reliability can be a talking point, the I-Pace has proven to be one of its more dependable modern vehicles, offering a solid ownership experience without the frequent maintenance of a combustion-engine car.
