Overview
The Peugeot e-208 50 kWh is a seriously stylish electric supermini that’s been turning heads and winning hearts across Europe. For its final 2023 run with this particular powertrain, it offered a compelling blend of chic French design, a zippy driving experience, and decent electric range for city hops and beyond. It's a cracking choice if you're after an EV that’s as fun to look at as it is to drive. While new stock of this specific version is gone, you can snag one on the used market, with prices for this discontinued 2023 model hovering around €14,990.
What's New for 2023?
The 2023 model year was a bit of a changeover for the e-208. This particular 50 kWh nominal (46.3 kWh usable) version with the 100 kW motor, as detailed in our specs, represents the configuration from the earlier part of its lifecycle, concluding its production in 2023. Hot on its heels, Peugeot introduced an updated e-208 later in the year, brandishing a punchier 115 kW motor and a slightly bigger 48.1 kWh usable battery for more range. So, this one's the cool original, making way for its even rangier successor!
Design & Exterior
Phwoar! The e-208 is a proper looker, and this 50 kWh version doesn't skimp on style. It boasts those aggressive "lion fang" LED daytime running lights up front and the distinctive three-claw LED tail lights that make it instantly recognizable. It's compact and perfectly proportioned for city life, measuring 4055 mm in length, 1765 mm in width, and 1430 mm in height. Its sharp creases and sporty stance mean it looks quick even when parked. Specific equipment grades would alter wheels, but the core design is universally fab.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside, and Peugeot's i-Cockpit layout still feels futuristic, with that dinky steering wheel and a 3D digital driver's display (on many versions) that you peer at *over* the rim. Quality is generally impressive for a small hatch, with some nice materials dotted about. Up front, it's comfy, though rear passengers might find legroom a tad snug. For your bits and bobs, you get 265 litres of boot space, expanding to a handy 1106 litres with the seats down. No frunk on this one, though. Infotainment usually includes a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Performance & Driving Experience
Don't let its city-slicker looks fool you; this e-208 has a bit of poke! The 100 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor delivers a healthy 260 Nm of torque instantly to its front wheels. This means it’ll zip from 0-100 km/h in a respectable 9 seconds flat – plenty quick for darting through traffic. It feels agile and nippy around town, with a comfortable ride for the most part. The regenerative braking is smooth, with a ‘B’ mode to crank up the energy recovery when you lift off the throttle. Top speed is capped at 150 km/h.
Range, Battery & Charging
This e-208 is fitted with a 46.3 kWh usable battery (50 kWh nominal), giving a Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range of around 311 km – pretty decent for daily duties and even some longer jaunts. Efficiency is rated at a solid 6.72 km/kWh. For top-ups, it accepts up to 101 kW on a DC fast charger via its CCS Type 2 port, meaning 10-80% in about 30 minutes. At home, the standard 7.4 kW AC charger fills it in around 6.5 hours, or if equipped with the optional 11 kW charger, that time drops to just over 4 hours.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Peugeot kitted out the e-208 pretty well on the safety front, and this version scored a solid 4 stars from Euro NCAP. You’ll typically find a good suite of standard driver aids, including active safety brake (emergency braking), lane keeping assist, speed limit recognition, and driver attention alert. Depending on the specific trim level this 50 kWh battery was paired with (like Active, Allure, or GT), you could also get goodies like adaptive cruise control with stop & go and blind-spot monitoring, though some might have been optional extras.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
When new, Peugeots in Europe typically came with a 2-year/unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty, often extendable or supplemented by local dealer warranties. Crucially for an EV, the high-voltage battery in the e-208 is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km, guaranteeing at least 70% of its original capacity. Powertrain components often share this extensive cover. Maintenance on EVs is generally lower than combustion cars – no oil changes here! Just keep an eye on tyres, brakes, and the occasional software update. Reliability has been fairly good for the e-208.
