Overview
The Rivian R1T is the electric pickup that redefined the adventure vehicle segment, and the Performance Dual-Motor Standard+ trim was a short-lived sweet spot in the lineup. Produced between 2023 and 2024, this version packs a serious performance punch while offering substantial range. It combines go-anywhere capability with clever features like its signature 'Gear Tunnel' for unique storage solutions. While not officially sold in Europe, its blend of futuristic tech, blistering pace, and rugged utility makes it a hugely desirable machine on the global stage, commanding a premium price point.
What's New for 2024?
The big story for this model's short life was the introduction of Rivian's brilliant in-house 'Enduro' motor system. This Performance Dual-Motor variant was born from that change, replacing the earlier quad-motor setup on some trims to enhance efficiency and manufacturing. The configuration paired this potent new powertrain with the 'Standard+' battery pack, creating a compelling balance of power and range. Although this specific trim was discontinued in 2024 as Rivian further streamlined its offerings, it represents a key step in the R1T's evolution and remains a fantastic find.
Design & Exterior
The R1T's design is unmistakable, blending a friendly, futuristic face with a tough, traditional pickup silhouette. Its signature vertical 'stadium' headlights and full-width light bars at both ends make it instantly recognisable, day or night. It’s a substantial vehicle, measuring 5514 mm in length, 2014 mm in width (without mirrors), and 1986 mm in height, giving it a commanding presence on any road. This Performance trim maintains the clean, powerful aesthetic that has won the R1T so many fans, looking both rugged and refined.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the R1T wows with a minimalist, high-quality cabin featuring sustainable vegan leather and ash wood trim. Dominating the dash are a large central touchscreen and a crisp digital driver's display, which handle nearly all vehicle functions. The in-house infotainment is slick, though it notably lacks Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. For storage, it's a champion: you get a massive 314-litre frunk, an 821-litre truck bed, and the ingenious, lockable Gear Tunnel running through the middle of the truck, contributing to a total of 1670 litres of max cargo space.
Performance & Driving Experience
This is where the 'Performance' name earns its keep. The dual PMSM motors unleash a bonkers 496 kW of power and 1124 Nm of torque through an advanced all-wheel-drive system. The result? It’ll blast from 0 to 100 km/h in a blistering 3.7 seconds, pinning you to your seat in a way no traditional pickup can. Top speed is capped at 177 km/h. Despite this mad acceleration, the standard air suspension provides a comfortable, composed ride, while strong regenerative braking allows for smooth one-pedal driving in most situations.
Range, Battery & Charging
Powered by a 121 kWh usable battery pack, this R1T delivers an impressive Green Cars Compare estimated real-world range of 482 km on a single charge, with an efficiency of 3.98 km/kWh. For charging, its 400V architecture supports a maximum DC fast-charging speed of 215 kW, capable of zapping the battery from 10-80% in around 30 minutes. At home on an AC wallbox, the 11.5 kW on-board charger will deliver a full charge overnight. While US models use a CCS Type 1 port, European versions would feature the standard CCS Type 2.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
As the Rivian R1T is not officially sold in Europe, it does not have a Euro NCAP safety rating. However, it comes comprehensively equipped with Rivian's 'Driver+' assistance suite as standard. This advanced system includes Highway Assist, which provides hands-free driving on select motorways, alongside features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assistance, and Blind Spot Warning. This robust set of standard safety tech means you don't need to tick pricey option boxes to get the best driver aids available for the vehicle.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Rivian backs its vehicles with a solid warranty package. Owners are covered by a comprehensive vehicle warranty for 5 years or 100,000 km. The crucial components—the battery pack and drivetrain—get an even longer coverage period of 8 years or an impressive 280,000 km. The battery warranty also includes a guarantee that it will retain at least 70% of its original capacity during that time. Rivian’s service model relies on mobile technicians who can perform many repairs right at your home, a key part of their ownership experience.
