Overview
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz GTX has arrived, injecting some serious oomph into the retro-cool electric van! This isn't your grandad's camper; it's a proper performance people-mover, rocking all-wheel drive and a sportier vibe. It’s designed for families who want space but refuse to sacrifice driving fun or head-turning looks. With its beefed-up powertrain and distinctive GTX styling cues, it’s the Buzz with added buzz. Expect it to land in showrooms with a price tag around €73,101 for this top-tier, fun-loving variant, ready to electrify your adventures.
What's New for 2025?
The GTX is the electrifying new pinnacle for the ID.Buzz range, effectively launching as a hot 2025 model year highlight. This performance-focused variant introduces all-wheel drive to the Buzz family for the first time, courtesy of a potent dual-motor setup. It also boasts a significant power and torque uplift over its siblings. Alongside the thrilling performance boost, the GTX gets a dedicated 79 kWh usable battery, unique sporty interior and exterior styling cues, and likely Volkswagen's latest infotainment system, solidifying its flagship status. It's the ID.Buzz, but with an extra shot of espresso!
Design & Exterior
The ID.Buzz GTX keeps the beloved retro charm but amps it up with a sporty twist. You’ll spot unique GTX bumpers, a honeycomb grille design, and sleek black accents, including the GTX lettering. Standard IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights will pierce the darkest nights, and it rolls on distinctive alloy wheels, likely 20-inchers, enhancing its purposeful stance. A new Cherry Red paint is exclusive to the GTX! Dimensions stand at a substantial 4712 mm long, 1985 mm wide (excluding mirrors), and 1927 mm tall, ensuring it has serious road presence.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the GTX gets a sporty makeover with dark "ArtVelours Eco" microfleece upholstery featuring a unique diamond pattern, contrasting red stitching, and a black headliner. It’s properly roomy, offering seating for five or six passengers depending on configuration. The dash features Volkswagen’s latest generation 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with an illuminated touch bar for climate and volume, plus standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For your gear, there's a generous 1121 litres of boot space, expanding to a massive 2123 litres with seats folded. Unfortunately, there's no frunk for extra bits.
Performance & Driving Experience
This Buzz has some serious sting! The GTX packs a 250 kW, 679 Nm dual-motor all-wheel-drive system (an induction motor at the front, permanent magnet synchronous motor at the rear), rocketing it from 0-100 km/h in a brisk 6.1 seconds – pretty rapid for a van! Top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h. Expect a more engaging drive than the standard Buzz, with the AWD system providing excellent traction and a more planted feel. Multiple regenerative braking modes will help you claw back some range. It’s surprisingly agile for its size!
Range, Battery & Charging
The ID.Buzz GTX is powered by a 79 kWh usable battery pack (84 kWh nominal). Green Cars Compare calculates a real-world range of around 360 km, with an efficiency of 4.56 km/kWh. For juicing up, it supports AC charging up to 11 kW via its CCS Type 2 port, meaning a full top-up overnight takes approximately 7.5 hours. When you’re out and about, DC fast charging maxes out at a very decent 185 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in as little as 26 minutes under ideal conditions.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
While the GTX itself awaits its specific Euro NCAP test, the standard ID.Buzz scored a cracking five stars, so expect top-notch safety. The GTX will come loaded with kit; think standard Front Assist with emergency braking, Lane Assist, and likely Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Volkswagen's advanced Travel Assist, which combines ACC and lane keeping for semi-autonomous driving, should be available, alongside Park Assist Plus with a memory function for automated parking manoeuvres. Plenty of tech to keep you and your precious cargo secure on the road.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Volkswagen typically offers a 2-year/unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty in Europe, though this can vary with up to 5 years in some markets. The crucial high-voltage battery gets a robust 8-year/160,000 km warranty, guaranteeing at least 70% of its original usable capacity. Powertrain components are usually covered under the main vehicle warranty. Maintenance is minimal thanks to its electric nature – no oil changes here! Expect service intervals around every 2 years, primarily for checks on items like brake fluid and cabin filters, keeping running costs sensible.
