Uploaded 2 months ago by TotallyEV

Video Summary

The EX40 and EC40 replace the XC40 and C40 Recharge models with changes to battery pack and powertrain. The EX40 offers Core, Plus, and Ultra trims, while the EC40 starts from the Plus trim. Prices range from approximately £45,000 to £63,000, with a 3-year/60,000-mile warranty standard.

The single motor model has a claimed 293-300 miles range with a 69kWh battery. The single motor extended range model has a claimed 332-345 miles range with a 78kWh battery. Twin motor models are claimed to have a 323-335 miles range with an 82kWh battery. Real-world testing netted 260-280 miles for the single motor extended range with the Ultra trim.

Plus and Ultra models come standard with a heat pump to increase heating efficiency. One-pedal driving is available, but not activated by default. The single motor model can take up to 135kW on DC charging, and the twin motor can take up to 205kW, charging from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes. AC charging is 11kW, with a 0-100% charge taking approximately 8 hours.

Driving comfort is decent; it holds its own on winding roads without too much body lean. You feel good level of connection to the front axle, but its suspension system isnt as advanced as some cheaper alternatives. Power, in a single motor RWD EX40 tested, is 175kW (238 hp) with 420 Nm torque. The 0-60 mph time for this version is 7.3 seconds; top speed is limited to 112 mph.

The interior is upholstered nicely, but lacks design elements relative to the competition. The climate controls are accessed via the infotainment system. Google Maps is integrated and reads charge levels, allowing for route planning. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported but only through a wired connection. The base models have standard 8-speaker 250W audio. Storage in doors can hold 500mL bottles. The boot capacity is smaller on the EC40.

As for safety ratings, the C40 Recharge scored 5 stars in Euro NCAP testing, including 92% on adult occupancy and 89% on child occupancy. Standard safety features include cruise control, driver alert, lane keeping aid, and city safety with steering support. Plus and ultra trims add pilot assist. The reviewer found Volvo offers a comprehensive package with good driving dynamics, decent range, and a strong emphasis on safety.
