Video Summary
- The car is now called EX40 instead of XC40 Recharge, in line with the EX30 and EX90. - It's also available as a coupe crossover, called EC40. - The EX40 has a powerful twin motor version with four-wheel drive, doing 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. - A single motor version does 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. - The single motor has been moved to the rear for less wheel spin and improved efficiency. - Boot capacity is 410 liters with seats up and 1286 liters with seats down; there's a boot floor that can be used as a divider, plus extra space under the floor for the charging cable, but no 12V socket. - There's a 31 liter front trunk. - It can tow 1500 kg. - The EX40 has an 11 kW onboard charger as standard for normal charging. - Fast charging speed has increased to 180 kW for the smaller battery and 205 kW for the larger battery. - Faster charging now takes 28 minutes (from 10 to 80%) rather than 40 minutes. - The design, despite being 7 years old, remains timeless and good-looking. - Efficiency is not a Volvo strength, the extended range single motor version does about 570 km as a WLTP range. - A twin motor version does 536 km, a standard range single motor version does 475 km. - In perfect conditions range is near the stated WLTP range. - For highway driving the WLTP is not attainable - It offers great one-pedal drive due to the smooth transition between acceleration and braking. - The rear seats have plenty of space for legs and head room, but a large tunnel makes it less comfortable for three people. - Features on the rear seats includes a net and ski hatch, 2 USB ports, and AC vent. - A large digital display shows the information. - A lot could have been done with it, it’s only able to display a map and navigation. - Google Maps is standard, there is Google Play Store, fast and intuitive. - There are privacy concerns with some users. - A small cluster has physical buttons such as volume, stop/play, and AC. - The door pockets are absolutely huge, one liter bottle fits in it. - The ride feels quick even in the single motor. - Sporty feel and handling aren't present. - It's a very comfortable highway cruiser. - Rear visibility is not good. - Overall the car evokes a smile, not a grin.
