Overview
The Fisker Ocean Extreme was the all-singing, all-dancing version of this ambitious electric SUV, aiming to shake up the premium market. With its potent dual-motor AWD setup and a massive battery, it promised both thrilling performance and a genuinely impressive range. Unique touches like the SolarSky roof and sustainable interior materials set it apart. Though production was short-lived, ending in 2024, it briefly showcased Fisker's vision. On the used market in Europe, examples are appearing around a surprisingly accessible €29,950, making it a bit of a wild card for savvy buyers.
What's New for 2024?
The 2024 model year for the Ocean Extreme was tragically brief, as production ceased early in the year. The main "new" aspect for these final models was the ongoing rollout of Fisker's Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, particularly version 2.0. This crucial update aimed to address early software gremlins, enhance existing features, and improve the overall user experience. Think smoother infotainment, better driver-assist calibration, and potentially tweaked performance characteristics. Unfortunately, its full potential was cut short before widespread implementation across the fleet.
Design & Exterior
The Ocean Extreme cuts a dash with its muscular, modern SUV lines and a seriously cool stance. Up front, you get slim, high-tech LED lights, while the rear is equally distinctive. The Extreme trim often flaunted massive 22-inch alloys that fill those chunky arches perfectly. Key dimensions are 4775 mm long, 1982 mm wide (excluding mirrors), and 1629 mm tall. Don't forget the party pieces: the "California Mode" for that open-air feeling and the innovative SolarSky roof, helping to trickle-charge the battery on sunny days. It’s a proper head-turner!
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside the Ocean Extreme, and you're greeted by a cabin big on sustainable materials and a minimalist, tech-forward vibe. The showstopper is the huge 17.1-inch Revolve touchscreen that can flip from portrait to landscape – how cool is that! Passenger space is decent for five. For your gear, there’s 476 litres of boot space, expanding to 918 litres with the rear seats tumbled. Sadly, no frunk here. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were on the checklist, alongside a premium sound system for banging tunes.
Performance & Driving Experience
Hold on tight! The Ocean Extreme packs a proper punch with its dual-motor AWD setup, rocketing you from 0-100 km/h in a blistering 4.2 seconds. That’s thanks to a combined 420 kW of power and a hefty 737 Nm of torque from its front and rear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors. It’s not just about straight-line grunt; it offers a composed, if firm, ride and confident handling for an SUV of its size. Multiple regenerative braking modes help you claw back some energy too. This thing is seriously quick!
Range, Battery & Charging
The Ocean Extreme boasts a chunky 106.5 kWh usable battery pack, delivering a very impressive real-world range, calculated by Green Cars Compare at around 594 km. That’s mega! Energy consumption is a respectable 5.58 km/kWh. For juicing up, you get an 11 kW AC on-board charger, filling it up overnight. Hit a DC fast charger, and it can guzzle power at up to a whopping 250 kW via its CCS Type 2 port, getting you back on the road sharpish. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability was also part of its tech arsenal.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Peace of mind is key, and the Fisker Ocean scored a top five-star rating from Euro NCAP in 2023. The Extreme trim came loaded with Fisker's "Intelligent Pilot" suite. This typically included adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera for tight spots, and automatic emergency braking as standard. Traffic sign recognition and other clever aids were also part of the package, meaning you got a comprehensive set of digital co-pilots to make journeys safer and less stressful.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
When new, Fisker offered a fairly comprehensive warranty package for the Ocean Extreme. This generally included a basic vehicle warranty of 6 years or 100,000 km. The crucial battery pack was covered for a reassuring 10 years or 160,000 km, with a degradation guarantee. The powertrain often mirrored this longer coverage. While early models faced some teething software issues, the hardware itself was promising. However, with production ceasing, prospective used buyers should investigate current support options carefully.
