Overview
The 2025 Lotus Emeya R is the brand's electrifying four-door "hyper-GT," set to take on rivals like the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. This flagship model blends legendary Lotus handling with breathtaking electric performance and a luxurious, tech-forward cabin. As the pinnacle of the Emeya range, the R variant is all about maximum attack, delivering staggering power and dynamics wrapped in a stunning liftback design. With a starting price around €145,990, it represents a new era for the British marque, proving that electric cars can be seriously exhilarating driver's machines.
What's New for 2025?
As an all-new model line, the 2025 Emeya represents a massive leap forward for Lotus. It establishes the second pillar of the company's electric revolution, alongside the Eletre SUV. For its debut year, the Emeya introduces a cutting-edge 800-volt platform shared with its SUV sibling, but honed for a lower, sportier GT experience. The range-topping 'R' trim, in particular, unleashes the most powerful dual-motor powertrain ever fitted to a Lotus road car, immediately setting a new performance benchmark for the brand and the electric GT segment.
Design & Exterior
The Emeya R is a proper head-turner, boasting an aggressive, low-slung silhouette that screams performance. Its design is a masterclass in active aerodynamics, featuring a deployable front grille, an active rear diffuser, and a massive dual-layer active rear wing for maximum downforce. The R trim further dials up the aggression with carbon fibre accents. Measuring a substantial 5,139 mm long, 2,005 mm wide, and just 1,464 mm high, its sleek, muscular proportions give it an undeniable presence on the road, perfectly embodying its hyper-GT character.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the Emeya R's cabin is a stunning fusion of sustainable luxury and cutting-edge tech. Occupants are treated to a driver-focused cockpit featuring a massive 15.1-inch central OLED screen, a slim digital driver's display, and an advanced augmented reality head-up display. The system, powered by Unreal Engine, looks incredible and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For practicality, it seats five and offers a generous 509-litre boot, supplemented by a useful 45-litre frunk under the bonnet, making it as functional as it is futuristic.
Performance & Driving Experience
This is where the Emeya R really shines. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system unleashes a colossal 675 kW and 985 Nm of torque, rocketing this GT from 0-100 km/h in a face-melting 2.8 seconds. The powertrain uses advanced Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors and a unique two-speed transmission on the rear axle for relentless acceleration. Despite its 2,650 kg weight, Lotus's chassis-tuning magic, aided by an active air suspension system, ensures it carves through corners with the agility expected of the badge while remaining a comfortable long-distance cruiser.
Range, Battery & Charging
The Emeya R is equipped with a 100 kWh usable battery pack, delivering a Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range of approximately 402 kilometres, with an efficiency of 4.02 km/kWh. Thanks to its advanced 800V architecture, charging is blisteringly fast. At a compatible DC station, it can pull a maximum of 350 kW via its CCS Type 2 port, juicing up from 10-80% in as little as 18 minutes. For home charging, a powerful 22 kW on-board AC charger is standard, enabling a full charge in around five hours.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
While an official Euro NCAP safety rating is not yet available, the Emeya R is packed with advanced safety technology. It is one of the first cars to feature a deployable LIDAR system, which works alongside cameras and radars to power a comprehensive suite of driver aids. As the top-tier model, it comes standard with features like intelligent adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and high-definition surround-view cameras, providing Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving capabilities for enhanced safety and convenience on long journeys.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Owners of the Lotus Emeya R in Europe are covered by a comprehensive warranty package. This typically includes a basic vehicle warranty for three years with unlimited kilometres, extendable up to five years. Crucially, the high-voltage battery pack is covered for a period of eight years or 160,000 kilometres, whichever comes first, with a guarantee to retain at least 70% of its original capacity. This provides long-term peace of mind, ensuring the heart of this electric hyper-GT is protected against premature degradation and defects.
