Overview
The Porsche Taycan RWD, produced from 2021 until 2024, serves as the brilliant entry point to Porsche's electrifying four-door sports saloon experience. It’s the purist's choice, delivering that classic rear-wheel-drive feel and Porsche's legendary handling DNA, all wrapped in a stunning, futuristic package. While no longer available new, this specific trim offers a compelling option on the pre-owned market, with used prices around €58,900 in Europe. It’s your ticket to premium EV performance and daily usability without needing the all-out punch of its pricier siblings.
What's New for 2024?
For this specific Taycan RWD (production 2021-2024), the 2024 model year marked its final run before a comprehensive Taycan range facelift was introduced for subsequent model years. As such, this version didn't receive major updates for 2024 itself, largely carrying over its impressive existing features. Porsche did integrate Spotify directly and refine the charging planner in earlier updates, which would be present. The big story is the all-new generation Taycan which arrived after this model's production ceased, bringing substantial changes across the board.
Design & Exterior
This Taycan RWD absolutely screams Porsche with its iconic low, wide, and sleek four-door coupé silhouette. Measuring 4963 mm in length, 1966 mm in width, and a squat 1395 mm in height, it’s got presence. Up front, the signature four-point LED headlights are instantly recognisable, while the flowing lines and muscular haunches give it a properly sporty stance. This RWD trim keeps things clean and purposeful, often featuring unique aero-optimised wheels that distinguish it subtly from the more aggressive Turbo models, looking every bit the business.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Slip inside, and the Taycan RWD treats you to a beautifully crafted, driver-focused cabin brimming with tech. High-quality materials are everywhere, with a futuristic dashboard dominated by a curved digital driver’s display and a central infotainment screen. Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is slick, with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It seats five, though four is more comfy. For your gear, there's a decent 407-litre boot out back, plus a handy 84-litre frunk under the bonnet – perfect for charging cables or a weekend bag.
Performance & Driving Experience
Don't let "entry-level" fool you; this Taycan RWD is still a rocket! With its single Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) delivering 300 kW and 345 Nm of torque to the rear wheels, it'll launch you from 0-100 km/h in a brisk 5.4 seconds. Top speed is a healthy 230 km/h. The driving experience is pure Porsche: sharp, agile, and incredibly engaging with fantastic steering feel. Ride comfort is surprisingly good too, making it a great daily driver, and the regenerative braking is smooth and effective.
Range, Battery & Charging
The Taycan RWD packs a 71 kWh usable battery, offering a Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range of around 343 km – plenty for most daily drives and some weekend fun, achieving an efficiency of 4.83 km/kWh. Charging is a breeze with its 800V architecture; at a DC fast charger, it can theoretically guzzle up to 223 kW. On a 400V DC charger, it's limited to 50 kW. For AC charging via its CCS Type 2 port, it comes with an 11 kW on-board charger standard (optional 22 kW), meaning a full top-up takes around 7 hours at 11 kW.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Porsche doesn't skimp on safety, and the Taycan RWD proudly wears a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. Standard kit usually includes essentials like Lane Keeping Assist, traffic sign recognition, and front/rear ParkAssist. However, many of the more advanced driver-assistance systems, such as Porsche InnoDrive with adaptive cruise control, Active Lane Keeping, and a surround-view camera system, were often found on the options list. So, check the spec carefully on used examples to get all the desirable safety gadgets.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
When new, Porsche typically offered a 2-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty in Europe, with options to extend. Critically, the high-voltage battery usually benefits from an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, guaranteeing around 70% of its original capacity. Powertrain components are generally covered under the main vehicle warranty. Maintenance on EVs is generally lower than combustion cars, focusing on tyres, brakes, and coolant, but always stick to Porsche’s recommended service intervals for optimal health and to maintain warranty coverage.
